The FBI raid on former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida is “automatically political,” according to Rep. Dan Crenshaw, who says the Justice Department “failed to act responsibly” .
The Texas Republican appeared on CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday, where he was asked whether Trump may have kept classified information in an unsecured location at his private residence.
“I want to get to the truth,” Crenshaw said. “But I’ll be honest with you here, it’s hard to justify what the Justice Department did here, in my opinion.”
Crenshaw pointed to Trump’s apparent cooperation with authorities before the FBI’s Aug. 8 raid, saying he has yet to see any evidence that the former president was asked to return any documents.

“Why take it to this extreme?” Crenshaw asked, suggesting that may be what’s frustrating Republicans.

The FBI raid, which Crenshaw called “unprecedented,” was related to an investigation into records Trump allegedly took with him from the White House to his private residence when he left office in January 2021

Crenshaw suggested the action against Trump was politically motivated.
“And you know when you go after a former president who can run again, that’s automatically political,” the Republican congressman said. “You can’t separate the legal aspects of this from the political aspects. You can’t. And I don’t think they’ve acted responsibly as a result of that.”
