Breaking News Live Updates, August 22: The Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) and other farmer groups are organizing a ‘mahapanchayat’ at the Jantar Mantar today to raise their voice over their pending demand for proper implementation of the minimum support price (MSP). In the wake of this protest call, the Delhi Police has already beefed up security at the Haryana-Tikri border. They have erected cement barriers while farmers had already started pouring into the capital yesterday onwards. They will pass through the jurisdiction of the outer district, which includes the border from Ghazipur to Ghaziabad. “In this regard, adequate deployment of local police and external force will be made in the outer district area at Tikri border, major intersections, along railway tracks and metro station to prevent any untoward incident. Also, a full law and evidence order has already been issued in this regard,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer Delhi) Sameer Sharma said. Rakesh Tikait, farmer leader and national spokesperson of Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) and prominent face of SKM, was arrested by the Delhi Police at Ghazipur border on Sunday.
