Leave the state to have an abortion

I find it surreal that several states and Republicans in Congress are trying to make it illegal for women to leave their state to get an abortion.

So now the state where a woman resides owns her body? How absurd is that?

If your state doesn’t allow betting, you can go to one that does and play. If cannabis is illegal in your state, you can go to a state where it is legal and smoke. Will they charge the woman or the doctor who did what was legal in their state? The whole idea is crazy.

If you get pregnant, does the state own your body? This of the party that wants to govern outside the lives of the people? And now all but eight Republicans in the House voted against ensuring women have access to birth control. They don’t want sex education in school either.

Jay Ambrose says, “Yes, there are people who oppose contraception and other factors that make sex something it shouldn’t be.” And there you have it, sex is only for procreation and if you do it for any other reason, too bad for you. You become an incubator of the state. This is getting really scary.

Are men good at being fathers?

A recent article in the Mail Tribune asked “whether this generation of men is better at parenting than when we were young”.

I have to answer yes.

I just got back from a plane trip to South Dakota. On the plane, at the Denver airport, and at the wedding I attended, I witnessed many young men carefully caring for young children from infants to 10 (?) years of age. They were much more knowledgeable about their children and much more involved with them than I remember happening in the 1950s and 1960s! In those days, mothers did all the mothering.

The letter was ready

Marcia Bolsinga was spot on with her July 12 letter to the editor titled “Morals and Religion.”

A religion is not necessary to live a moral life.
