Eastern Shipbuilding Group (ESG), Panama City, Florida, has been awarded a $257 million firm-fixed-price contract for the design and construction of a new medium-class hopper dredger.

Bids were solicited over the Internet with three receipts, the Department of Defense announced yesterday
Work will be performed in Panama City, with an estimated completion date of August 16, 2027.
The US Army Corps of Engineers, Philadelphia District, is the contracting activity.

In February 2022, USACE said it was in the early stages of hiring a replacement for the then 56-year-old. McFarland hopper dredger and had issued a draft request for a new Medium Class Hopper Dredger (MCHD) replacement vessel.
