Police: 1 shot, dead in north Charlotte after domestic violence-related incident
CHARLOTTE – Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are investigating after a man was killed in a shooting Wednesday afternoon in north Charlotte.
Authorities were called to a home shortly after 1:30 p.m. Wednesday on Pennsylvania Avenue off the Brookshire Expressway. They said the call was for a domestic violence-related assault with a deadly weapon with an injury.
Police confirmed one person was shot. They were taken to the hospital where they later died, officers said.
CMPD said investigators are not looking for more suspects. They are calling the case domestic because the suspect and victim may have been related to each other. They did not share the victim’s identity or say how the shooting happened, but said they do not know why they went to the home.
“We’re not at liberty to talk about what initially attracted the suspect to the residence. We’re piecing it together,” said Dave Robinson with CMPD. “We don’t believe this is a random crime, and with this being related to the home, the parties potentially know each other.”
A Channel 9 crew at the scene saw several officers placing crime scene tape around a home. Several CMPD vehicles were at the scene and officers were leaving and entering the home.
Neighbors declined to speak on camera, but said they know the family who lives in the home at the center of the investigation. They said a man was trying to get in when he was shot.
Police have not said if anyone has been charged in the case.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call 704-432-TIPS and speak with a homicide detective. Detective Condron is the lead detective assigned to the case. Information can also be left anonymously by calling Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 or by clicking here.
