Eamon Velarde’s final start of the summer for the Medford Rogues was strong and the collegiate baseball team continued an impressive late season run with a 6-0 win over TKB Baseball on Thursday in Harry & David Field.
Velarde allowed just three hits in five hitless innings with six strikeouts and one walk, with Victor Quinn pitching two hitless innings with five strikeouts and two walks for Medford (23-16-1).
The Rogues have allowed two runs or fewer in their last three games, with double-digit strikeouts in an eighth straight game despite Thursday’s game being shortened to seven innings due to a late start brought on by hot conditions extremes here in southern Oregon.
Medford wasted no time jumping ahead of TKB Baseball with three runs in the first inning, using singles by Tyler Peterson and Emiliano Alarcon and a two-run double by Barron Zamora to build an early lead. An RBI single by Dane Woodcook made it 3-0 in one inning.
Another pair of singles by Peterson and Alarcon set the stage for a run in the second, with Peterson coming home on a wild pitch.
Reece MacRae scored a run on a sacrifice fly in the fourth and Zamora delivered an RBI double to cap the scoring.
Zamora was 2-for-3 with a run and three RBIs, while Peterson and Alarcon also finished with two hits.
The Rogues are set to close out their season finale homestand with 7:35pm kickoffs scheduled for Friday and Saturday night against TKB Baseball.
Doors open at 5pm on Friday to host a Home Run Derby slated for the Rogues at 5:30. Friday night will also feature a 10th anniversary shirt auction.
