Crews are battling the Corey fire, which broke out Friday outside White City and Central Point and quickly grew to 5 acres. It has been confirmed that three homes have been destroyed by the fire.
It is confirmed that three homes were destroyed in a fire that broke out on the outskirts of Central Point and White City on Friday evening.
The 2-alarm fire broke out at 4:38 p.m. Friday at Corey and Foothill roads and quickly grew to five acres, taking the three homes and numerous outbuildings and vehicles with it, according to dispatch data at PulsePoint and a nightly update from the Jackson County Fire District. 3.
Around 15 additional structures were threatened during the attack.
Rescuers had time to search the houses before the collapse and have confirmed that there are no injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The structure fire that spawned several spot fires was first detected by the Wildfire Alert camera, according to Southwest Oregon Fire District 3 and the Oregon Forestry District.
Fire District 3 called in a second alarm, drawing additional resources from the Medford Fire Department, ODF, including two helicopters, and Rogue Valley Strike Team 1 consisting of resources from Rural-Metro Fire, Grants Pass Fire Rescue, Rogue River Fire Department, Illinois Valley. Fire District and Applegate Valley Fire District No. 9.
By 6:15 p.m., crews halted the fire’s progress on an approximately five-acre footprint.
According to an overnight update from ODF Southwest District of Oregon, the bulk of wildfire resources had cleared the scene as of 8 p.m.
