Driver killed as garbage truck overturns, crashes into several homes in Wilmerding

WILMERDING, Pa. – The driver of a garbage truck has died after crashing into several homes in Allegheny County early Tuesday, the Wilmerding fire marshal confirmed to Channel 11.

The crash happened in the 300 block of Patton Street in Wilmerding around 4:00 a.m.

Allegheny County police said first responders found the driver, a 47-year-old man, dead at the scene.

Police said the driver was traveling on Jefferson Street and attempted to turn onto Patton Street when the truck overturned and struck the homes.

Firefighters said two homes were hit by the truck. One was empty and one of the homes had two people inside, but they were not injured.

Both of these houses are now condemned and at least one will be demolished tonight.
