Kansas voters on Tuesday, August 2, rejected a constitutional amendment that would have allowed state lawmakers to pass legislation that would have imposed tighter restrictions on abortions.
Kansas has been in the national spotlight this primary season as the first state to vote on an abortion measure since the US Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in June.

Tonight, the American people had something to say about it,” President Joe Biden said in a statement released Tuesday evening by the White House. “Kansas voters turned out in record numbers to reject the efforts extremes to amend the state constitution to remove women’s right to choose and open the door to a statewide ban. This vote makes clear what we know: A majority of Americans agree that women should have access to abortion and should have the right to make their own health care decisions.”
