The kidnappers of four Ondo residents have contacted the families of the victims, demanding a sum of N50 million before they could be released.
The victims, who included a traditional chief, High Chief Mukaila Bello of Ikare Akoko in Akoko North East Local Government of the state, Mr. Adeniran Adeyemo, Mr. Bashiru Adekile and Chief Gbafinro, were abducted by thugs along the Owo-Ikare Expressway on Thursday. .
The driver of the vehicle carrying the victims escaped but was shot by the bandits.
A source said: “The bandits have contacted the families of the victims and demanded a huge amount of money, 50 million naira, but the families are unable to collect the amount. That is the state of things now for now”.
The source disclosed that interfaith prayers and fasts are being held in Ikare Akoko community for the safety of the victims in captivity.
A community leader and Jagunmolu of the Ogbagi Akoko group, Captain Lanre Adebambo (Ret.), urged the entire Akoko community to synergize and collaborate to have formidable security teams that make the roads of ‘Akoko be safe for travelers because of Akokoland’s position as the gateway to Ondo. state
The State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, said the police and local hunters and rangers were still in the forest to rescue the victims.
“Our men and local hunters and rangers are still in the jungle to rescue the victims,” he said.
