Red Sox ace Chris Sale to miss rest of season after bike accident – Boston 25 News

BOSTON – Boston Red Sox pitcher Chris Sale will miss the rest of the season with an injury he suffered in a non-baseball accident over the weekend, the team announced Tuesday.

According to the Red Sox, the left-hander underwent surgery on his right wrist at Newton-Wellesley Ambulatory Surgery Center in Wellesley.

Sale suffered his injury during a bicycle accident on Saturday.

“He will miss the remainder of the 2022 season, but is expected to be ready for the start of spring training in 2023,” the team said in a statement.

In July, Sale underwent surgery on his left pinky after being hit by a liner in a game against the New York Yankees.

Sale appeared in just two games this season as he spent months rehabilitating from a stress fracture in his rib cage suffered in February. He pitched just nine games in 2021 due to Tommy John surgery in 2020.

The 33-year-old has an opt-out clause in his contract after the 2022 season.

This is a developing story. Please check back for updates as more information becomes available.
