Amber Alert: Missing 5-year-old Cary found, mother located: Police

BENSON, NC (WNCN) – A missing 5-year-old Cary boy has been found after an Amber Alert was issued Wednesday, according to police.

Cary Police said, “Amani Jada Bruce has been located safely. The North Carolina Highway Patrol located Amani Bruce and her mother Crystal Walston safely in Benson, NC.”

An AMBER Alert was issued at 20:38 for Amani.

Amani is 3 feet, 8 inches tall and 65 pounds. She has brown hair and brown eyes and was last seen wearing a pink and purple nightgown with a unicorn on the front.

Walston is 5-foot-11 and 230 pounds. She is 38 years old, has black hair, brown eyes and was last seen wearing a black v-neck top, black pants and blue socks.

Walston also has prior state charges of assault on a child and felony trespassing from September 2021, the Department of Corrections confirms. He was facing up to 18 months in prison on those charges.

Also, earlier, Cary police recovered a UNC Rex vehicle stolen by Walston.

A Raleigh police source confirmed that Walston was a patient at UNC Rex with an involuntary commitment order. The source also said she left the hospital, drove to a Cary home off Rosedown Drive, for her daughter and left.

UNC Health Rex released a statement to CBS 17 Wednesday night about the incident at its complex with Walston:

“Wednesday afternoon, a behavioral health patient stole a vehicle from UNC Health Rex Hospital in Raleigh and fled the property. Two hospital employees suffered minor injuries. Our security team at hospital is working closely with local law enforcement.

Our top priority is always the safety and well-being of our teammates and our patients.”
