“There was a total lack and failure of planning,” Rep. Michael McCaul (Tex.), the committee’s top Republican, told CBS News’ “Face the Nation” on Sunday. “There was no plan, and there was no plan executed.”
The White House has responded by circulating a memo discrediting the report.
“This partisan report is full of inaccurate characterizations, cherry-picked information and false claims,” Adrienne Watson, the National Security Council’s chief spokeswoman, wrote in the memo. “He advocates endless war and sending even more US troops to Afghanistan. And he ignores the impacts of the flawed deal former President Trump struck with the Taliban.”
