Bryan Cranston i Aaron Paul they are forever enshrined in bronze in the city of Albuquerque, something that conservatives are up against, claiming the statues glorify meth.

At the end of last month, mayor Tim Keller unveiled 2 statues honoring the ‘Breaking Bad’ stars, now on display at the Albuquerque Convention Center, following a ceremony where BC and AP were on hand to pose with their metal counterparts .

It was a kitschy, fun thing that seemed innocent enough, like a shout-out to the actors and a show to put the spotlight on their city and state, but now, some Republicans in the state are furious about the honor.

Conservative radio host Eddy Aragon and state representative Rod Montoya say the statues send the wrong message about who should be glorified in the community.

Montoya says “meth traffickers” shouldn’t be the shining example in Albuquerque, and Aragon adds… “It’s not the kind of recognition we want for the city of Albuquerque, or for our state.”

Aragon continues to complain about how city officials took down a controversial statue of Albuquerque’s first Spanish governor. Juan de Onatefor he was a conqueror…but now turn around and cast these two fictional characters as proverbial beacons.

This kind of backlash was actually expected, Mayor Keller warned against it when they were first introduced, saying he understood it, but defended having statues of Jesse Pinkman and Walter White because of the history of ‘warning they represented and the jobs they gave to NM.
