In this week’s edition of Spotlight Politics:

Today is Governor’s Day at the State Fair and after an overwhelming battle for control of the Illinois Democratic Party, there is now an attempt at unity. Tomorrow is GOP Day at the Fair where Republican gubernatorial candidate Darren Bailey will try to deflect from his campaign’s latest social media controversy — this time the explosive anti-gay and transphobic posts of his formula partner Meanwhile, Darren Bailey has changed his tune, saying “Joe Biden is the duly elected president.” So how big is Donald Trump in the midterms?

In other policies, Highland Park passes a measure calling for a ban on semi-automatic weapons, high-capacity magazines and body armor. And Naperville continues with a ban on the commercial sale of assault rifles. There was a hearing today on an emergency rule that Governor Pritzker and the state police introduced to try to fix a loophole that would have prevented the sale of the gun used in the Highland Park massacre.
