Suspect arrested after hours-long Ocean Blvd. motel standoff

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – A suspect is in custody after an hours-long police standoff at the Happy Holiday Motel on the Grand Strand.

A heavily armed police presence was on the scene early Tuesday morning after a man barricaded himself in the Happy Holiday Motel on N. Ocean Blvd., officials said.

“We are negotiating with a person barricaded in Happy Holiday,” said Myrtle Beach police spokesman Master Cpl. said Tom West. “The area is secure and officers will remain on site while the incident continues.”

Vest said the wanted man ran from police this morning and arrived and barricaded himself inside the motel around 5:30 a.m.

As of 10:30 a.m., Vest said police had the person in custody and would only say the person had been wanted.

The person’s identity has not yet been released.
