In this edition of ‘Eyewitness News Extra Time’, we have the latest details on a mass shooting in Atlanta that left one person dead and several others injured.
An intense and massive manhunt is underway for a man who police say walked into a hospital waiting room and opened fire.
One woman died and three others were seriously injured.
After the shooting, police believe the shooter stole a vehicle and escaped just before authorities swarmed the building.
This was the nation’s 190th mass shooting this year, 14 ahead of the 2022 pace.

US mass shooting response in context
This shooting will no doubt spark another round of debate about gun laws across the country, but as has been the case with the aftermath of so many mass shootings in the US, these shootings have not led to major gun reform. .
Washington’s failure to react is even more egregious when compared to how some of our closest allies have reacted in recent modern history. Starting with our neighbor to the north, Canada responded to a mass shooting in 2020 by banning assault firearms.
The previous year, New Zealand severely restricted access to all firearms beyond small pistols after 51 people were gunned down in a pair of mosques.
In the UK, a 1987 gun law was further tightened after a gun-related tragedy in Scotland. Since then, most police officers in this nation don’t even carry firearms.
Finally, the blueprint for modern gun reform is often attributed to Australia. In 1996, less than two weeks after a gunman killed 35 people in Port Arthur, the National Firearms Agreement went into effect. All but banned automatic and semi-automatic assault rifles, mandated licensing and registration, and instituted a temporary gun buyback program that took some 650,000 assault weapons off homes and streets.
