From the Florida Highway Patrol and the Apopka Police Department

Florida Highway Patrol troopers responded to a vehicle-pedestrian crash on State Highway 429 north of CR-437 (Plymouth Sorrento Rd).

According to the FHP statement, the pedestrian died at the scene and was possibly hit by more than one vehicle. All southbound lanes were closed while investigators processed the scene. No other details were available at the time.

The FHP eventually turned the crash scene over to the Apopka Police Department after it was determined to be within their jurisdiction.

On Tuesday, the APD issued the following statement:

“On April 1, 2023, at approximately 10:20 p.m., a vehicle traveling southbound on State Highway 429 in the area of ​​Mt. Plymouth Road struck a pedestrian resulting in a fatality. After after being hit by the first vehicle the pedestrian was run over by several other vehicles all vehicles/drivers stopped and remained at the scene.

This is an ongoing investigation pending confirmation of the victim’s identity and notification of next of kin.”

Neither APD nor FHP released the name of the dead pedestrian or the drivers involved in the collision.
