It was a terrifying sight for a great-aunt as she struggled to get back on her feet to prevent a pram carrying her nephew from plunging into high-speed traffic in the northeastern city of Hesperia on Monday from Los Angeles. CBS Los Angeles reports.
But Ron Nessman was sitting on a bench outside a nearby car wash when he saw the woman, in her sixties, fall several times as she tried to pick up the baby’s stroller.
“You see the kid out on the street and that’s all he sees,” Nessman said. “She can’t do anything.”
Nessman rushed out of her pew and intercepted the stroller, saving the baby before the strong desert winds pushed it into the path of speeding cars.
“I saw her and I felt really bad for the lady,” Nessman said. “I have nephews and nieces and I couldn’t imagine something like this.”
Nessman, a former truck driver trying to rebuild his life, recently moved to Hesperia to reconnect with his family after a sudden and tragic heartbreak left him homeless.
“My girlfriend died in 2018,” he said. “It was sudden and I didn’t want to do anything.”
Hessman had just finished a job interview when he sprung into action.
“I couldn’t live with myself, I didn’t do anything,” Nessman said. “I’m glad I noticed it and was there.”
Nessman and her family hope this will be a teaching moment for people: Always make sure the wheels on strollers are locked.
