The Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) says it has issued a “No Water Use Order” for the McAlester Public Works Authority (PWA).
McAlester residents are advised not to drink or use city water due to the potential for contamination, according to the DEQ.
DEQ says it advised McAlester Public Works Authority to tell users not to use water after “loss of pressure and emergency use of non-standard equipment” resulted the possibility of contamination.
The DEQ says anyone who gets water from the McAlaster PWA should not use it for “consumption, food preparation, washing dishes, brushing teeth or washing hands.”
According to the DEQ, the following water systems purchase water from the McAlester PWA and are also under a no-use order:
Pittsburgh Co. RWD 9Pittsburgh Co. RWD 6Pittsburg Co. RWD 7Pittsburg Co. RWD 16Pittsburg Co. RWD 5
The DEQ says residents will be notified when they can drink and use water again.
