Florida Highway Patrol troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash in Lake County last night that killed an Apopka bicyclist.
According to the FHP report, at approximately 10:24 p.m. Friday, a 2006 Ford F-150 driven by a 28-year-old Apopka man was traveling westbound on State Highway 46 east of Deal Drive. At the same time, a 38-year-old Apopka man riding a bicycle was traveling west on the west shoulder of SR-46 east of Deal.
As the two approached, the bicyclist began traveling in a southwesterly direction and entered the westbound lane in the direct path of the F-150. As a result, the two vehicles collided.
The driver of the F-150 and a passenger remained at the scene of the collision and did not report any injuries to the FHP. The cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.
This accident remains under investigation.
The FHP did not release the names of the driver, passenger or bicyclist who died.
