A new ad from former President Trump paints the former president as a political outsider against the litany of legal troubles he faces, as well as his impeachments by Congress.
“Following your convictions means you must be willing to face criticism from those who do not have the same courage,” Trump’s voiceover says in the video on clips of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, New York Attorney General Letitia James and Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.).
“Take the opportunity to be an outsider. Embrace that label,” Trump says in the video, paid for by Make America Great Again, Inc.
The video opens with voiceovers of news clips about Trump’s troubles, from his impeachment in 2020 to the Jan. 6 House Select Committee investigation. The panel eventually referred the matter to the Justice Department, which is also investigating Trump for possible mishandling of classified documents. .
“Remember this, nothing worth doing was ever, ever, ever easy,” Trump says in the video over clips of his younger self and then his descent down the Trump Tower escalator before announcing their 2016 offer.
The former president, who lost re-election in 2020, entered the 2024 race for the White House after last year’s midterms. Recent polls have indicated that he is the Republican front-runner, although a number of others are already in the ring and are still rumored to be joining him.
President Biden announced his re-election bid last month, establishing that 2024 could be a rematch of former presidents and former presidents.
