Rishi Sunak has urged voters to be patient with the Tories as he said delivering on his five promises to improve the country will not happen “overnight”.
The Prime Minister said he believed voters wanted the Government to “focus on its priorities” as he responded to the Conservative Party’s strong set of local election results.
Asked if the loss of around 1,000 Tory councilors had sunk in and if he believed that just repeating his five promises would be enough to win back voters, Sunak said he was “moving forward and delivering “.
He told broadcasters: “We are cutting waiting lists in primary care by expanding the range of services you can get from your pharmacist, investing in GP practices to end the 8am scramble.
“These are practical things that will make a difference in people’s lives, improve their lives for the better. Now look, I know this is not going to happen overnight, but what I can tell people is that we are working day by day and night to do it. live better.
“I think the priorities I propose are the right ones, they are the country’s priorities and we will continue to work to fulfill them.”
Mr Sunak’s five priorities are to halve inflation, grow the economy, reduce debt, cut NHS waiting lists and stop the boats.
The Prime Minister’s comments came after Tory MP Justin Tomlinson said this morning that the local election results were “devastating” and should act as a “wake-up call for the party at all levels”.
