Breaking news! The water is wet and the donuts are delicious. Do you know what the breaking news is, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter? The Jacksonville Jaguars aren’t resting their starters against the Houston Texans in Week 17! Again, this isn’t groundbreaking reporting if you saw (or heard) Doug Pederson’s exchange with the media in the days leading up to the game.
early Sunday, Schefter said the Jags will play their starters against Houston and he’s not wrong, but he tried to frame it as breaking news when it’s not. After the “news” report, Hall of Fame offensive tackle Tony Boselli had Schefter’s answer.
Thanks Adam… Doug shared this in his Wednesday press conference. https://t.co/VQlUnH6Fzj

Schefter, along with NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero, has been the insider for breaking news, but his reputation has taken a hit in recent years. He reported that Tom Brady was retiring early in 2021 only to be denied by Brady himself. Similarly, he made a poor choice of words when discussing the death of Dwayne Haskins. However, Boselli was not alone in his response to Schefter. Mark Long of the Associated Press rightly pointed out that “you don’t need a source” for this “news.”
You don’t need a font for this. Pederson said it on the puck all week. He literally used the phrase full steam ahead for Wednesday https://t.co/sE9Q5sdXpS

As expected, Trevor Lawrence and Travon Walker are active for Week 17. That’s hardly news, though. Although Lawrence has been dealing with a toe injury he suffered a few weeks ago, he hasn’t missed a game.
Likewise, head coach Doug Pederson told the media he was optimistic Walker would face the Texans. Here’s Pederson’s original full-throated commentary from Wednesday’s exchange with the media:
“Full steam ahead,” Pederson said. AFC Sud opponent, great rival. Team that beat us in week 5, just focused on having a good week of preparation.”
The Jaguars know they can take their foot off the pedal if they want to finish the 2022 season strong and build momentum ahead of a potential trip to the playoffs. That’s why it’s not news that their starters are playing against the Texans, even if Adam Schefter thinks so.
