Police kill armed suspect in tense North Shore hostage situation, sources confirm

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Police fatally shot the armed suspect in a tense hostage situation inside a vehicle on Oahu’s North Shore Friday afternoon, multiple sources confirm to Hawaii News Now.

Sources also tell HNN the hostage is safe.

The suspect was holding the victim hostage in a pickup truck near the Hawaii Polo Field.

The incident began around 11 a.m. and shots were fired around 12:20 p.m.

Sources tell Hawaii News Now that a police chase preceded the standoff.

Shots were fired during the pursuit, but injuries were not immediately known.

A photo from the scene shows HPD’s Special Services Division, also known as SWAT, at the scene.

The victim and the suspect were in a white pickup truck.

Farrington Freeway is closed in both directions in the area and first responders are at the Waialua School gym. The state Department of Transportation has also closed Dillingham Airfield in Mokuleia until further notice.
