How to get breaking news and weather alerts on the FOX40 app

(KTXL) — FOX40 app users who want to receive breaking news and weather alerts on their phones can now customize the types of alerts they receive.

Those who download the app for the first time will have the option to receive push alerts for breaking news when they open the app.

The default setting is to receive push alerts.

The second message that appears is the “Be Prepared for Weather” page. Weather alerts are set to receive by default; users will only need to enter their zip code or allow their location to be shared.

Users who wish to further customize their alerts can follow the instructions below to change their alert options.

To access the alert options, app users must first tap the three-line menu icon, known as the “hamburger button,” in the upper-left corner of the home screen the application Then scroll down to the bottom of the drop-down menu and tap Settings.

The following settings menu will allow users to change the topic notifications, which currently only handles the breaking news alert. The slider icon will be grayed out if theme notifications are disabled. Tap the slider to activate them, which will activate breaking news alerts.

Below this area is the Weather Alerts section, which is where users can turn on weather alerts and customize which ones they want to receive. Again, the slider will be grayed out if they are disabled. Turning on Weather Alerts will turn on the four alerts below.

Users can choose to receive only one type of alert or a combination of alerts: National Weather Service alerts, precipitation alerts, lightning alerts, and start and stop precipitation alerts.

Users can also choose to display temperatures in Fahrenheit or Celsius.
