SC to hear activist Navlakha’s plea to walk out of Mumbai Public Library today
The Supreme Court is likely to hear on Monday the plea of activist Gautam Navlakha, who is under house arrest in the Elgar Parishad-Maoist links case, to be shifted from a public library in Mumbai. A bench of Justices KM Joseph and BV Nagarathna had on April 28 directed the CBI to file its reply within two weeks on Navlaka’s petition seeking to be shifted from the public library to another place in the city as the facility had to be vacated.
Besides, the high court also directed Navlakha to deposit another Rs 8 lakh towards expenses to make police personnel available for his security. While ordering his house arrest on November 10 last year, the apex court had initially ordered Navlakha to deposit Rs 2.4 lakh as expenses to be borne by the state for making police personnel available for effectively facilitate his house arrest.
The direction on payment of money was passed after Additional Solicitor General (ASG) SV Raju stated that a total bill of Rs 66 lakh was pending. On 10 November 2022, the high court had allowed Navlakha, who was then lodged in Navi Mumbai’s Taloja Jail in connection with the case, to be placed under house arrest due to his deteriorating health.
Amit Shah will inaugurate the legislative drafting training program in Delhi today
Union Home Minister Amit Shah will inaugurate a training program on legislative drafting in New Delhi on Monday. The program is organized by the Institute of Constitutional and Parliamentary Studies (ICPS) in collaboration with the Parliamentary Research and Training Institute for Democracies (PRIDE), according to an official statement.
It aims to create an understanding of the principles and practices of legislative drafting among officers of Parliament, state legislatures and various ministries, statutory bodies and other government departments, he added. Legislative drafting has a significant impact on the interpretation of policies and regulations implemented for the welfare of society and the state, according to the statement.
Since legislative drafters are responsible for drafting legislation that promotes democratic governance and enforces the rule of law, it is necessary that they be given training from time to time to sharpen their skills, he added.
