JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department and the State Fire Marshal are investigating a residential fire on West 15th Street that injured one and displaced eight.

Fire crews were called to the scene around 4:45 a.m. after a child woke up smelling smoke and alerted his parents, according to firefighters at the scene.

Upon arrival, crews found that the fire had spread to the attic of the apartment and the attic of the main house and there was damage to the front and back of the house.

One of the parents was injured in the fire and was taken to hospital by rescue teams. The Red Cross was called to help the rest of the family.

JFRD said the fire appears suspicious, so the State Fire Marshal was called to determine the cause of the fire.
