The chef cooks for 100 hours straight, probably breaking the world record

Nigerian chef Hilda Baci apparently broke a world record for the longest cooking marathon by a person by working in her kitchen for 100 hours.

The world record before Baci’s attempt was 87 hours and 45 minutes, set by India’s Lata Tondon. Guinness World Records said it is working to verify Baci’s claim to the record.

“We are aware of the record attempt and look forward to receiving evidence for our record management team to review, before we can confirm that the record is official,” Guinness World Records said.

His world record attempt was streamed live on YouTube. It started on May 11 and lasted four days.

Hundreds of spectators could see Baci through a window as she cooked. Performed the Cook-a-Thon at the Amore Gardens in Lagos, Nigeria. He had an entire production team that turned the event center into a feast to cook for a crowd.

Baci said he was looking to inspire future chefs in Nigeria.

“I feel like doing this is setting a precedent for a generation that comes after me,” he said.

Among those who came to taste Baci’s dishes were Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Oluthe governor of Lagos state.

“His dedication, passion for cooking, as well as his desire to put our rich culture on the map by not only showcasing our food, but also the resilience, determination, energy and team spirit that ‘has known as the spirit of Lagos and indeed Nigeria is really remarkable,” he said. “We are proud to have Hilda embark on this journey in our state.”

President of NigeriaMuhammadu Buhari also celebrated the success.

“I share the immense joy of all Nigerians as Hilda Bassey Effiong (Hilda Baci) makes history by breaking the world record for the longest cooking marathon. A great day for Nigeria. We are all very proud of what she has achieved personally and put Nigeria in the global spotlight,” he said. “Hilda’s drive, ambition and resilience have generated great interest and insight into the uniqueness of Nigerian food. She is now a cultural icon and I believe this feat will inspire many more young people, in Nigeria and beyond , to follow in his footsteps”.
