An Arkoma man was killed in a late-night hit-and-run Saturday night, according to police, who are asking for the public’s help in finding the suspect. John Aaron Pemberton was walking near the intersection of Main and Young streets around 11 p.m. Saturday. when he was beaten and killed. Family members told 40/29 News that Pemberton, 40, was legally blind and walked everywhere in Arkoma. Police Chief Michael Ivy said Pemberton was carrying a flashlight when he was fatally struck. “He was still on when he was killed. Paramedics and officers arrived on the scene,” Ivy said. “We have witnesses who saw the incident, and it was clearly lit. They were able to stop and had plenty of time to stop, but the other vehicle did not.” Police have not identified any suspects. On Tuesday, they released a description of a vehicle in hopes the public will recognize it. Looking for a black 2007-2014 Chevrolet Tahoe. The driver’s side headlight and turn signal are likely broken or missing, as well as a large section of the bumper cover. The fender in front of the driver’s side tire is likely missing as well. Police released a reference photo of a black Chevrolet Tahoe, shown above. Arkoma Police are asking anyone with information to call them at 918-875-3381.” We’re just asking that the person who did it come forward and give their version of what happened. If it was a mistake, if it was an accident, just tell us what happened and why you couldn’t stop and render aid.” Ivy said. “I want some closure for this family. We can’t bring Mr. Pemberton back, but we would like to bring them closure.”
