Longtime Democrat, former presidential candidate returns to politics to run RFK, Jr.’s campaign. and expel Biden

Robert F. Kennedy Jr.: I never thought I would see this state of desperation in the US

A longtime Democratic figure and former presidential candidate returned to the public political stage Thursday when it was announced that he will serve as campaign manager for Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s effort. to beat President Biden for the party’s 2024 nomination.

Dennis Kucinich, a former congressman from Ohio who ran unsuccessfully for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2008 against then-Senators Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, has been advising Kennedy for months and introduced him at the start of his campaign in Boston last month.

The Kennedy campaign made the appointment official a press release touting Kucinich’s experience and referring to him as “one of the most important progressive voices in American politics.”

“Dennis Kucinich has brought invaluable electoral experience to our campaign,” Kennedy said in a statement. “He knows how the system works from the inside out, and his deep understanding of the issues and his personal integrity are fully aligned with the core values our campaign is bringing to American politics.”

Since launching his campaign last month, Kennedy has drawn much of the support of Democrats who chose not to back Biden for re-election. According to a Fox News poll released April 27, 19 percent of Democratic primary voters said they would support Kennedy, while 9 percent said they would support author Marianne Williamson.

Support for Kennedy and Williamson represented more than a quarter of Democratic primary voters who participated in the poll. However, it found that Biden still had the support of 62% of the party.

Kennedy and Williamson have denounced the Democratic National Committee’s (DNC) plan not to hold a primary debate between the three candidates, even though it is customary for the ruling party to avoid primary elections when it controls the White House.

Both Williamson and Kennedy have also made New Hampshire a key race target since the DNC changed the order of the primaries. The national party knocked New Hampshire out of the top spot, but the state will likely hold a nonsanctioned primary on its preferred date, meaning Biden can’t even appear on the primary ballot in that contest.
