Suspect accused of breaking into vehicles, shooting security guard in Preston Center West

The city of University Park said a suspect who was allegedly breaking into vehicles shot a security guard in Preston Center West Friday afternoon.

The city reported a strong police presence at Westchester Drive and Luther Lane and warned residents to avoid the area. Authorities said the suspect drove off in a gold Toyota Camry.

Dallas police are investigating the incident, which happened just blocks from the University Park boundaries, said city communications director Steve Mace. Dallas police did not immediately respond to a request to confirm the department’s involvement.
