Odisha will have a new minister today:

The Odisha cabinet will induct new ministers on Monday, with Governor Ganeshi Lal administering the oath at a ceremony at the Lok Seva Bhavan, PTI reported.

According to the report, Bhanjanagar MP Bikram Keshari Arukha, who resigned as the assembly speaker last week, received a phone call from Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to take oath as a minister. Patnaik also called Rourkela MLA Sarada Prasad Nayak and Bangiriposi MLA Sudam Marandi for the ceremony, they said.

The governor returned to Bhubaneswar on Sunday, a day ahead of schedule, after a private visit to his home state of Haryana.

The three-day Karnataka Assembly session begins today:

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday announced that the Assembly will meet for three days starting May 22 to administer oaths to newly elected MLAs and elect a new Speaker.

Siddaramaiah was sworn in as chief minister for the second time today, along with state Congress president DK Shivakumar as deputy chief minister and eight legislators as ministers, exactly a week after the party swept the Assembly elections in Karnataka.

“We request the Governor to convene the Assembly session for three days — Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday — because the new Assembly is to be formed on May 24,” Siddaramaiah said.

Tripura BJP state executive meeting on Monday:

The BJP Tripura state executive meeting to plan the party’s strategy for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections will be held on May 22 at Charilam in Sepahijala district, according to a party leader, PTI reported.

The BJP’s loss of 11% vote share in the 2023 Tripura Assembly elections has sounded alarm bells in the ruling party. The number of seats has decreased from 36 in 2019 to 32 this year.

The presidents of the party’s district units are expected to submit their reports on the party’s organizational position, according to Rajib Bhattacharjee, the party’s state president. According to the report, the meeting will include state BJP in-charge Mahesh Sharma, Chief Minister Manik Saha and Bhattacharjee among other party leaders.
