MANCHESTER, NH – Authorities have opened an investigation after a fatal officer-involved shooting in Manchester, New Hampshire, that left a gunman dead Friday morning.

According to New Hampshire Attorney General John M. Formella, officers who responded to a 911 call reporting a person armed with a firearm at 1143 Mammoth Road shortly before 3:30 a.m. they encountered the individual in question and eventually opened fire.

“In the end, multiple Manchester police officers discharged their firearms,” ​​Formella’s office said in a statement. “Rescue measures were attempted, but the armed resident was shot and has died.”

The person’s identity has not been released. An autopsy has been scheduled for later today.

No officers or other residents were injured in the incident and authorities say there is no threat to the public.

“In accordance with protocol, the names of the officers involved in the incident are being withheld pending the conclusion of formal interviews,” Formella’s office added. “The officers who initially responded had body-worn cameras.”

The exact circumstances of this incident remain under investigation. More details are expected to be released after the autopsy is complete

The officer-involved shooting is the third in Manchester in the last year.
