DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. – A DeKalb County woman fears for her safety after she says a man posing as a maintenance worker broke into her home while she slept just feet away.

Nina Alford told Channel 2’s Veronica Griffin that she and her 13-year-old son were asleep in their home at the Avana City North Apartments early Thursday morning. She says her son woke up to find a man looking around the apartment.

“When he woke up, he said the boy saw him sitting up. That’s when he walked by his room and said, ‘Hey, I’m done,'” Alford said.

Alford says he hadn’t asked for any reparations. The apartment manager confirmed to Alford that no one had been sent to his apartment.

After the man left, she realized her purse had been turned inside out and her credit and debit cards and car keys were gone.

“I was scared, I was upset, I was angry. He talked to my son, so I had various emotions,” she described. “I’m very angry.”

Shortly after leaving, Alford received an alert that someone tried to use his debit card at a nearby store.
