St. ALBANS, Queens (WABC) — Police are investigating a double shooting in Queens that took place Saturday night, leaving one dead and another injured.
Around 9:30 p.m., officers responded to a 911 call about a person who had been shot inside a residence on Pineville Lane in Saint Albans.
Upon arrival, police found two victims who had been shot multiple times.
Julie P. was washing dishes when she heard the shots. He looked out the window and saw a group of people in the kitchen next door looking down, possibly one of the bodies.
“I was scared, because I’m looking at them, and I’m scared if a bullet hits me. They were right in front of me,” Julie said.
Police say two people were shot multiple times inside the home; the suspect was his own uncle, police believe. Chevaughn Millings, 25, was pronounced dead. A 20-year-old woman who was shot survived.
Police say an argument over cooking could be the motive for the shooting.
The violence in what appears to be a quiet residential neighborhood has only grown, neighbors say, and the crime scene tape is all too familiar. They say they can’t help but remember another deadly shooting that happened a block away.
“A corrections officer got shot around the corner,” Cavita Lewis said.
John Jeff, a 28-year-old corrections officer, was killed in August 2020 after leaving a neighborhood party. His killer remains at large despite a weathered sign offering a reward for an arrest.
Neighbors hope this most recent shooting doesn’t go unsolved; they would like to feel safe again.
“I grew up on this block, so it’s sad how it’s changed,” Lewis added.
The suspect fled the scene in a white vehicle.
An investigation is ongoing.
