According to the Addu City Council, the work will start from the Hithadhoo Zone-2 area.
This is the biggest development project in Addu town and will solve the land problem in the town for the next 50 years, the council said.
Under the program, made by the Dutch giant Van Oord – a total of 194.3 hectares of land will be reclaimed along the coasts of Hithadhoo and Maradhoo/Maradhoo-Feydhoo islands.
Besides, three new islands will be created in the lagoon of the city.
The TSHD will obtain sand from two designated areas in the lagoon.
The project, financed through an $800 million Indian line of credit, is expected to be completed this year.
