BREAKING: Collins agrees to deal at Plainmoor

Gary Johnson has further strengthened his squad ahead of the new season, with Lewis Collins set to return to Plainmoor after agreeing a deal for 2023/24.

With two other successful loan signings, Kevin Dawson and Jack Stobbs, agreeing to turn their temporary moves into permanent deals last month, 22-year-old striker Collins has now followed suit in a similar fashion.

Initially arriving at Plainmoor on loan in February, Lewis established himself as a popular figure among the Yellow Army and was a key component in United’s superb end-of-season form, making 15 appearances and 3 goals in the past three months of the campaign

Equally comfortable up front or out wide, the capture of the former Newport County and Wales U21 is sure to delight Gulls supporters even more, with manager Gary Johnson looking to retain the majority of the squad that finished the 2022/23 with such strength that it is now nearing completion.

“Our team/club empathy and team/club spirit has come true again, with Lewis Collins agreeing to join us for the upcoming campaign,” said Johnson.

“He brings another quality player who was part of our end-of-season group that showed great potential. When players like Lewis sign for a club, it’s a credit to the whole football club.

“Our supporters play a big part in the players coming to Torquay, and we will do everything we can to bring back a successful season at Torquay United AFC.”
