A toddler has died after being reported missing Saturday, according to a news release from authorities.
Saturday at 1:07 p.m., Prowers County Dispatch received a report of a toddler missing from a residence in Lamar. Lamar Police Department, Lamar Fire and Ambulance, Prowers County Sheriff’s Office, Prowers Rural Fire, Kiowa County Sheriff’s Office, Department of Wildlife Officers of Colorado, the Colorado State Patrol and numerous local citizens assisted in a general search for the missing child.
At 3:30 p.m., the child, whose age and gender have not been reported, was located and taken to Prowers Medical Center, where the child was pronounced dead.
Although the investigation is preliminary, authorities said the death appeared to be accidental in nature.
A full investigation by the Lamar Police Department and the Prowers County Coroner’s Office is underway.
Due to the circumstances and out of respect for the family, authorities said no identifying information will be released at this time, and that more information may be released when the investigation is complete.
