BOSTON – A Boston police officer was shot during a patrol incident near Clifford Park in Roxbury Friday night, Boston Police Commissioner Micheal Cox said.
Police sources tell Boston 25 that the officer was hit in the foot and back.
According to Cox, the officer approached a “robbery in progress” in the area of 44 Cedric Street when the armed suspect shot the officer multiple times.
Cox said two other officers were injured during the incident, but not by gunfire.
“This just shows all the difficult work that our officers deal with on a daily basis,” Cox said during a news conference. “It’s so troubling in today’s world that, you know, these things happen.”
The officer was transported to Boston Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to be OK, Cox said.
Boston Mayor Michelle Wu and Suffolk County District Attorney Michael Hayden joined Commissioner Cox outside the emergency room.
“We see time and time again how Boston is blessed to have first responders who are so professionally trained and keep us safe every day,” Wu said.
Suffolk County District Attorney Michael Hayden said the Boston police officer was also an employee of the DA’s office.
One person was taken into police custody, Boston Police Cmdr.

Police did not immediately release the name of the officer who was shot.
