PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Funding for Oregon schools, literacy programs and special education teachers are in possible jeopardy after a nearly six-week Republican walkout stalled hundreds of bills. The GOP standoff over a bill that would expand access to abortion and gender-affirming health care could derail much-needed education funding in a year when the stars seemed to be aligning on the budget Oregon. Tax revenues have exceeded projections by state economists, enabling the state House to pass a record $10.2 billion K-12 budget. But the legislation needs a Senate vote, as do other bills aimed at increasing early literacy and school staffing. The legislature ends on June 25.
