Authorities say a homicide investigation is underway after a woman was found dead inside a car at a Bixby park.

According to police, shortly after 10 p.m. Sunday, officers were called to conduct a welfare check on a woman whose children were worried about her.

Police say they located the car the caller had detailed to Washington Irving Memorial Park near East 136th Street South and South Memorial Drive and found a woman dead inside.

Authorities say they were able to locate a suspect in connection with the homicide, and after a chase with law enforcement that ended in a crash near Northeast 1st Street in Pryor, they arrested 34-year-old Travis Glenn Ballard years.

Authorities have not yet identified the woman who was found dead.

There is a heavy police presence at a Bixby park Monday morning.

News On 6 crews first arrived at the scene around 1 a.m. and saw police in the area and the crime scene taped off at the park.

News On 6 crews reached out to Bixby police about the situation, but authorities have not released any information.

Police have blocked all entrances to the park and it is currently unclear why officers are at the scene.
