On Tuesday, while covering simultaneous speeches from President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump during what is normally primetime programming, Fox News demonstrated its highly touted “live news” operation when he explained to viewers via text at the bottom of the screen that Biden is a “would-be dictator” who personally ordered Trump’s arrest.

For those unable to see the video, below a split screen with a Biden speech on the left and a Trump speech on the right, a chiron read: “Wanted dictator speaks at White House after arresting his political rival.” Subtle!
In case you’re missing context, Trump he was formally arrested earlier in the day in a Miami federal court on charges stemming from the special counsel’s investigation into his illegal possession of classified documents. he was indicted Friday on 37 chargesnot only for illegally taking hundreds of highly sensitive classified national security documents when he left office in 2021, but also for his efforts to deceive the US government and evade attempts to recover them.
Trump gave a speech on Tuesday night about his arrest, which consisted mainly of denouncing everyone involved in the case, accusing his political enemies of all kinds of conspiracies and lying, openly and frequently, about what the law relating to classified documents. Read more about it here.
Biden, for his part, has consistently done so keeping absolute distance of the Department of Justice and tea declined to comment about the multiple investigations into Trump. Biden has also ordered the national Democratic Party and his own re-election committee to remain silent on the matter, lest appearance of politicization such a serious issue. And the speech he made on Friday was in support of LGBTQ rights.

Meanwhile, it turns out that the only major presidential candidate in 2020 is calling who did not try to overthrow the government a “would-be dictator” isn’t the only absurd thing Fox News did Tuesday night.
Before that moment, Brian Kilmeade, while ramping up coverage of Trump’s post-arrest speech, virtually denied that Biden was president. “This is the president of the United States,” he said as he introduced the clip.
To be clear, Donald Trump has not been President of the United States since January 20, 2021.
