Paris Saint-Germain have held talks with Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta over the possibility of him becoming the club’s next manager, according to reports in France.

Arteta guided the Gunners to a second-place finish in the Premier League last season, challenging Manchester City for the title but ultimately falling short.

The Spaniard signed a new deal at Arsenal that will keep him at the Emirates until 2024, however, talks have reportedly taken place between Arteta and PSG sporting director Luís Campos. RMC

The Ligue 1 champions are looking for a fourth permanent manager in five years after parting ways with Christophe Galtier after just one season in charge.

Arteta’s links to the vacant Paris Saint-Germain come after talks between the club and former Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann broke down.

Concerned Arsenal supporters will be boosted by the news that discussions with Arteta did not develop as the French side would have hoped.

Campos is reportedly pessimistic about the 41-year-old’s chances of fighting outside of England given his commitment to Arsenal.

Arteta is keen to compete in the Champions League with Arsenal when they return to European Cup competition after a six-year absence.

It is also reported that Campos is not responsible for making decisions on the appointment of a new manager and talks were allegedly held only to determine whether Arteta would be interested in the PSG project.

However, there are encouraging signs about the possibility of appointing Porto manager Sergio Conceicao, with negotiations apparently expected this weekend.

Conceicao is represented by super agent Jorge Mendes who is said to be in France at the weekend to try to reach a deal.

The Portuguese is said to be considered a great fit for the role due to his managerial experience in Ligue 1 with Nantes and his ability to speak French.

The promise of a big transfer kitty and a star-studded squad with Kylian Mbappe is said to be an attractive proposition for Conceicao, who has previously been linked with taking over at the Parc des Princes.

Conceicao is tied to Porto on a contract until 2024, with PSG facing the possibility of paying a £15.3m release clause to land his managerial target.
