The former president’s allies are turning against him, calling his handling of classified documents at Mar-a-Lago illegal and dangerous.
“The legal theory that he gets to take battle plans and sensitive national security information as personal papers is absurd,” Trump administration Attorney General Bill Barr told Face the Nation on Sunday. “It’s as absurd as the legal doctrine they came up with for the vice president to unilaterally decide who won the election.”
“People have described him as a hoarder when it comes to these types of documents. But it was clearly unauthorized, illegal and dangerous,” added former Trump administration defense secretary Mark Esper.
Voters may also be sick of Mr. Trump.
In a new poll, voters were more likely to describe Donald Trump in one word as “criminal”; others were even less flattering, including “disgusting,” “liar,” “evil” and “dangerous” (although “patriot” also appeared in the top 10).

Why South Carolina Matters in the Presidential Primary
South Carolina Republicans have set Feb. 24 as the date for their 2024 presidential primary, a move that, if passed, the party says will give Republican White House hopefuls more time to campaign in first state of the south.
The GOP’s state executive committee voted unanimously to approve the measure Saturday, the party’s executive director, Hope Walker, told The Associated Press. The selection still needs approval from the Republican National Committee to be official, and Walker said a formal submission will be submitted before the October deadline.
The move comes as the two major parties make moves to consolidate their voting calendars ahead of the 2024 nominating process.

New Lincoln Project announcement slams Trump over classified documents indictment
In a new attack ad, the Republican anti-Trump group, the Lincoln Project, blasts the former president for removing classified documents from the White House, and also criticizes Republican politicians and conservative media for not condemning the conduct.
“Trump has done this to himself,” the ad says. “He took the documents. He shared them and tried to cover it up. Patriots know that people who commit this crime belong in prison, not in the White House.”

In a recent interview with Face the Nation, Mr Barr, who served as the Trump administration’s attorney general, called his former colleague “mean and selfish”.
