WESTWOOD, Mass. — A penny may not be much, but it matters over time for motorists who fill up their gas tanks and take summer road trips.
The average price of gas in Massachusetts is up one cent from last week, averaging $3.54 a gallon, and up 11 cents from $3.43 a month ago, according to AAA.
Nationally, Tuesday’s national average price is up 3 cents from a month ago, at $3.54.
“We may be in for a bit of a lull in demand heading into the Fourth of July holiday,” Mary Maguire, AAA Northeast’s vice president of public and government affairs, said in a statement Tuesday. “Drivers are benefiting financially, with 20 gallons of gas costing nearly $30 less than last year. And with the cost of oil low, drivers will find pump prices that are flat or slightly lower for now.”
And while gas prices are slightly higher, AAA Northeast’s June 20 survey of fuel prices found the national average today was 2 cents lower than last week, when it was $3.59, averaging $3.57 a gallon.
By comparison, gas prices are currently lower than they were this time last year, according to AAA.
As of June 20, 2022, the average gas price in Massachusetts was $4.98 per gallon and nationally, $5.00 per gallon, according to AAA.
