Despite the first day of summer, Wyoming’s spring showers came in heavy Wednesday afternoon, causing minor flash flooding in parts of Cody, Wyoming.
The National Weather Service has issued the following advisory for northern Wyoming:
“A strong storm system will produce areas of heavy rainfall in southern Montana and northern Wyoming. The heavy rain will combine with already saturated soils to cause possible flooding. Parts of Montana, including the following counties, Big Horn, Carbon, Carter , Custer, Fallon, Golden Valley, Musselshell, Park, Powder River, Rosebud, Stillwater, Sweet Grass, Treasure, Wheatland and Yellowstone.Parts of north central Wyoming, including the next county, Sheridan.
Excessive runoff can cause flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying, flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams can emerge from its banks. Extensive street flooding and creek and river flooding are possible. Rainfall totals of 1 to 3 inches are possible. this rain it will combine with already saturated soils and can cause flooding.”

A “Hazardous Weather Outlook” warning has also been issued as follows:
“This hazardous weather outlook is for western and central Wyoming. Today and tonight: Scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly east of the Divide.
Thursday and Friday… Scattered showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening. Strong to possibly intense thunderstorms are possible on Friday.
Saturday through Tuesday… Isolated to scattered thunderstorms in the afternoon, mainly over northern Wyoming. At the moment, Sunday seems to be the least active day.”
While the focus of the flash flood warning is mainly in southern Montana and Sheridan County, Wyoming, Cody has been affected by some flash flooding and it doesn’t look like the rain is letting up anytime soon.
