When Channel 3 crews arrived at the scene after 4 a.m., officers walked down the street with their firearms drawn.

Later Friday morning, police reported that it was a robbery in which shots were fired at the building.

A person in a vehicle was unable to leave the scene when officers arrived. Police said the person behind the wheel was involved, though no charges were filed.

A victim was found at the scene and told officers the incident was actually a robbery in which he was robbed at gunpoint and pistol-whipped. The victim also said the suspects fired shots into the building and that there were three masked suspects who ran into nearby woods.

“A perimeter was established with the assistance of multiple law enforcement agencies and the area was closed to traffic while a search for the suspects was conducted,” Bloomfield police said in a news release. “The North Central Municipal Emergency Services Team (NCMEST) responded to search the wooded property for the armed assailants, but the suspects were not located.”

The victim was treated by medical staff for a minor wound caused by the gunshot.

“The victim’s business suffered broken windows as a result of the gunfire and the BPD Detective Unit will process that location for evidence and has been assigned that investigation,” police said.

Police said detectives were still investigating the involvement of the individual in custody.

“This is an active investigation,” police said. “Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Bloomfield Police Detective Unit.”

Connecticut State Police, West Hartford Police and Simsbury Police were seen assisting at the scene.

Drones and K9 teams also appeared to be helping with the search.
