The Memphis Grizzlies signed guard Desmond Bane to a five-year, $207 million max extension, according to sources. The deal is the largest in franchise history and the first $200 million deal in Grizzlies history.
The 25-year-old guard is getting one of the biggest deals in free agency thanks to a career year last season. Bane is averaging about 21 points, five rebounds and four assists on 48 percent from the field and 40 percent from three.
The guard continues to excel in the league as he has improved each season since being selected 30th overall in the 2020 NBA Draft.
Bane has become a focal point as the shooter for Memphis’ young core alongside Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr. The deal ensures the core stays together long-term, as Morant and Jackson Jr are on multi-year contracts.
The sharpshooter struggled to shoot last postseason, but much of that was dealing with the broken bone in his toe he suffered in late November. Bane opted to sit out the rest of the season and underwent surgery last month.
Memphis hopes Bane will be ready for the start of the season, as fans will see him as the leading scorer in Morant’s absence.
