With Omer Yurtseven not returning, and Cody Zeller’s return status currently unknown, Miami finds its new big safety.

Thomas Bryant agrees to a 2-year, $5.4 million contract with the Miami Heat, the second year is a player option.

The news of Damian Lillard being traded to the Heat now opens up plenty of opportunities for new guys to come to South Beach on cheap deals to compete for a championship. Bryant is one of those first dominoes to fall.

Bryant has been a solid big in this league for years, and was even able to put up a double-double a night during his tenure in Washington a few seasons ago.

He is coming off a championship season with the Denver Nuggets, where he was traded after playing half the season with the LA Lakers.

Bryant is only 25 years old and is listed at 6’10. Adds some bulk, size and defensive presence.

He had some decent stats in limited minutes last season:

Stay tuned for the nicest rotation pieces to come aboard the Heat. This is a team fresh off the NBA Finals, and the Lillard rumors make it even more of an attractive free agent destination than it already was.

Bryant, at the very least, will be a nice upgrade from both Dewayne Dedmon, Omer Yurtseven and Cody Zeller over the last few years.

This is breaking news. Stay tuned for updates.
